Task 10
Intro what is film distribution? Film distribution is the process of making a movie available for viewing by an audience.
What is the distributor's role? A distributor is an intermediary entity between a the producer of a product and another entity in the distribution channel or supply chain, such as a retailer, a value-added reseller or a system integrator
What's a distribution plan? plan created by the management of a manufacturing business that specifies how the firm intends to transfer its products to intermediaries, retailers and end consumers. Larger companies involved in making products will usually also put together a detailed production distribution strategy to guide its entry into its intended market.
What is the average distribution cost for a big six film? The average cost for a big 6 film is around $50 million. Fast and furious 7 cost $48 million and Dead pool cost $52 million.

Her is a list of some of the main global distribution companies (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_film_distributors_by_country)
What do you think is the link between audiences and distribution? The link between audiences and distribution is that the distributor's need to get their film out to their specific target audience. Because if they put it out to the wrong audience no one will go and watch their film.
Task 8
Production:- In the industry there have been many major advances in filming technologies, movies like The Hobbit boast 48 frames per second – making it the first movie in Hollywood history to surpass the standard fps rate (which is usually 24 frames per second).- On movie sets across the world, Red One Digital cameras are transforming the filming process by replacing the standard 35 mm camera with a smaller, lighter, and thus more portable camera solution – without lessening image quality. - Virtual backlots now allow actors to appear in far flung destinations, thanks to digital backgrounds.
- For Fast and Furious 7 when they CGI Paul Walkers looks onto his brother they used SFX/Technology to create a Paul Walker look alike.

Doc Martin Representation of regional Identity
Regional Identity
Camera
Tracking shot of Doc Martin walking the dog is wide and mid angle. This shot mainly fills the frame with Doc Martin to show his importance within the scene, but they use a wide shot so that you can also see the backdrop. The reason the film makers has done this is because they want to show you how out of place Doc Martin looks. It shows that he is a city man because of his suit and stature, but the background is cottages, old fashioned shops and fields.
There was a two shot of locals working vs one shot of Doc Martin. This happens in the scene when the locals are fixing docs sink. Having to locals in one shot and then Doc Martin in one by himself shows us that Doc Martin is twice as important and intelligent as the local workers. This enforces the stereotype of the Cornish because they are seen as backwards and unintelligent people. This is shown when Doc Martin is compared to two of them. The reason they have done this is because they want to show how important Doc Martin is to this village.
Editing
Doc Martin has the most screen time out of everyone. By having more screen time it shows that he is more important than other characters. This enforces the stereotype of north being important and being stupid. The south are seen as well educated, posh and snobby. By having more time on screen it shows that the south are more important and that educated, clever people are more accepted in todays society.
Mise en Scene
There is a stereotype that up north people just wear farmers clothes and they are always olds and tattered because they cant afford to buy more clothes. This stereotype is enforced because at the start of the clip the farmer is wearing a dirty, old farmers costume. This tells us that he hasn't got much money and can only afford a small amount of clothes.
There is a stereotype that Cornwall girls are backwards and are dumb. They also are know to dress out of fashion because it takes a while for fashion to catch on in Cornwall and they are also know to wear lots of make up. once scene from the clip supports this stereotype. The scene were Doc Martin chases the dog out of the window, you then see a group of girls dressed out of fashion, "Slutty" and wearing lots of make up. This shows that down south people are more connected and more educated and the people down south are less connected and loess educated. This is all due to the economic state of the area.
Sound
The dialogue during the middle of the clip gives us a reason to believe that the locals are quite thick or is it just the way they are saying it? The locals have a northern sounding accent, this then makes the locals seem thick because we associate northern accents with thick people. This is proven because Doc Martin sounds intelligent because he has a southern accent. Also Doc Martin is given intellectual dialogue unlike the locals, this makes him sound even more intelligent. This again supports the stereotype of southern people well educated and intelligent and northern people being uneducated and dumb.

Hotel Babylon
Hotel Babylon (How ethnicity is represented)
Sound
Sound
In this part of the scene the sound is ambient and the background music is building tension, background music makes the audience feel sympathetic for the characters because the music is expression the emotions which must be going through the migrants heads, constantly wondering whether this will be the day they get caught and get sent back to their gloomy country living off minimal pay. This leaves the audience on the edge of their seat because they are constantly wondering whether the poor immigrant workers who are just trying to make a living, are they going to get caught or not.
Editing
They don't get much screen time on their own to show their lack of individuality and importance. in comparison to the white characters altogether their scenes are fast paced and focussed on gathering them all rather than investigating their individual jobs.
Mise En Scene
The immigrants are dressed in cleaners uniforms which are extremely basic like their job, this shows the audience that they are willing to do the jobs that we aren't prepared to do. The lighting isn't very good here, this shows that they are constantly having to hide in the shadows even though they are being helpful and they just want a better way of life.
Sound
Sound
Sound
Here this scene is quite quiet, this is because all the characters that are in this screenshot are upset because the receptionist is clearing out Ibrahims locker who was the unlucky immigrant that got caught during the inspection. Druing this scene there is parallel music playing to set the mood of sadness with some slow instrumental backing music. The emotion is heightened by the music.
Camera
All the characters are in the centre of the screen, this is to show that they are all equal, they are standing close to eachother to show they are comfortable around eachother which would suggest that they have been working together for a while to have formed a relationship with this 'Ibrahim'. The movement is very slow in this shot to show the sad feelings the characters are experiencing.
Editing
The receptionist now has the most amount of screen time as she is of the most paramount importance of all of the immigrant workers. The attention goes back to her and the immigrant workers continue being together to help each other through the sad times, you can tell this because they have no individual importance apart from the doctor in scene before. The pace similarly slows down as it is a sad moment that they are experiencing, this could suggest that this man has been working here for a long time because they are finding it difficult to get over it.
Camera
This screen shot shows a man appearing to be a doctor. The way he is dressed shows that he is in a basic cleaning job which would suggest that he is unimportant however he counteracts the stereotype because he is medically trained . The angle of this shot is level with the character and the doctor takes up most of the screen. This shows the importance of the doctor in this scene, this is not something that would happen usually due to the usual stereotype of immigrants, meaning that it subverts the stereotype.
Editing
The transitions in this scene is very basic. The order of narrative is basic to emphasize the routine-like days that these immigrant workers have. Lack of complication suggests that things are done in a straight forward manner as the foreign workers may not understand a complex style due to language barriers, this causes an issue with having immigrant workers doing a professional Job. The pace is very quick to give the character that has just passed out importance, as them not being able to get proper help they are doing everything in the power they can to help her. This supports the danger of having immigrant workers, as they are putting the health of the lady that passes out second to getting caught by the police in a inspection. No SFX are used in this scene. Screen time here is mainly on the lady that has collapsed and the doctor, this brings our attention to her and the possible problems she could have with her health.
Mise En Scene
he is wearing red, this shows danger and this shows that the immigrants are constantly surrounded by danger, it also supports the stereotypes of how immigrants are all scarred of getting caught somewhere they shouldn't be or doing something they legally aren't allowed to do, even if it's helpful and clean or not. The receptionist is wearing red that is brighter than the other, this is because as she is the one in charge of hiding all the illegal immigrants she is going the most against the law which would tell the audience that she would get the worst punishment.

The lighting isn't very good here, this shows that they are constantly having to hide in the shadows even though they are being helpful and they just want a better way of life.
Sound
in this scene there is a lot of use of foley in the background such as some crying noises to show that the immigrants in the crowded room are starting to panic and are becoming agitated , they are doing this because they want to keep their job. There is whispering going on during this scene this suggests that some of the immigrants may be praying to their god that they don't get taken, this is how much their job means to them.
Camera
The scene filmed inside the room where they hide is rather slow pace, it slows down the whole pace of the scene and it builds lots of tension. In this scene the receptionist does a head count to make sure they have got everyone inside the room and to see whether or not they have left anyone behind, This builds tension because we have a feeling that someone hasn't made it. during this scene the shots go to close ups of the characters faces to show their panicked looks however it is unclear whether they are panicking/looking like this due to their possible leaving behind of a person or just because of the bad situation they are in.
Mise En Scene
The four characters that are in the foreground of the shot are all wearing white uniforms which are very smart, this indicates that they have respectable jobs that require them to look presentable therefore they come into contact with people of the public and the white coloured uniform suggests purity and lack of harm. One of the chefs is wearing a hat, so the hotel they are working at must be well established because it has top hygiene rules.
Sound
You can feel the emotion and desperation in their voices whilst they are trying to round all the employees up. this shows that they are very close somewhat like a family that they want to protect eachother.
Camera
in the part of the clip the distressed lady is gathering all of the immigrants it seems quite routine-like which furthers the idea of immigrants being treated unlike humans, which proves the immigrant stereotypes. The angle shown is worms eye view to make them seem like they are in control of the current situation meaning they have the opportunity now to hide as many people which they are doing.
Editing
The change of shots here are quite hurried to add emphasis and emotion to the importance of hiding all the immigrants, which supports the stereotype of their lives constantly being in danger and having to rush to hide from their manual labour jobs.
Mise En Scene
Again the uniforms of the works look very basic like their job. This furthers the stereotype because it is showing us that they are doing boring in complex jobs because that's all they are supposedly capable of. Also the workers hair is scruffy. This suggests that the worker is too poor to afford shower or cant afford accommodation and is having to rough it someone.Saturday, 5 March 2016
Task 6
Cinemas
the 5 closed cinemas to Chelmsford are;
1.Odeon-which Is based in Chelmsford town centre
2.Rayleigh Hi-Fi- which is based in Moulsham street Chelmsford
3.Cinema rooms- which is also based in Chelmsford
4.Cineworld- Which is in Braintree
5. Empire- Which is in Basildon
other cinemas;
6.View- Which is in Westfield Shopping centre
7. Prince Charles Cinema- which is in London (Independent cinema)
8. Lexi Cinema- which is also in London (Independent cinema)
9.Curzon Soho- which is also in London (Independent cinema)
10. Electric cinema - which is also in London (Independent cinema)
The more mainstream Cinemas will attract kids between the ages of 11-22, this is usually the age range at which films are aimed at. This is because kids in this age range have money and are willing to go out and spend it and get a good experience. But independent films are aimed more at the older generations, this is because independent films make you think more and are more intellectually challenging, unlike mainstream films which hand everything to the viewer for easy watching.
The View and Odeon are huge cinemas. They both have at least 11 screens. This means more people can come in and watch different films at once. Independent cinemas however have less screens because less people come to watch independent films because they aren't as mainstream. Multiplex cinemas sell Popcorn, hot dogs, nachos, soft drinks and pickamix. Independent cinemas sell small packets of sweets and beverages, this is because they don't need to make money from food because they don't need to pay much back to the movie makers, unlike mainstream cinemas. The prices are also very diverse, the reason for this is because independ films don't cost as much to show as mainstream films. Independent films cost around £5 a ticket and mainstream films cost around £11 a ticket.
All the Mainstream Cinemas are showing the new Block Busters e.g. Dead pool, Triple 9, Grimsby, Star Wars and Zoo lander 2
The independent cinemas are showing films such as; The Bigger Splash, The wave, Emelie, Knight of Cups and Men Go to Battle

This is a survey I made to find out how often people go to the cinema, what genres they watch and how much they spend on food. This will give me a greater understanding about peoples cinema habits.

Coming Down The Mountain Analysis
Analysis
Mise En Scene
(C.L.A.M.P.S.)
in the episode his disabled brother doesn't dress well. This is a stereotype for disabled people that they do not dress well. This undermines their confidence and shows that they are not as cool as normal people. His disabled brother is shown as small and fat and he is tall and skinny. This again shows that his brother is more powerful because he is taller than him and it again is a stereotype for disabled people saying that they can't be physically fit due to their disability. When actually in fact they could be just as physically fit as a normal person. His brother is also a stereotypical dumb disabled person. Just because someone is disabled doesn't mean they are dumb and away with the fairies, but because its the way people think disabled people are like its easier to show is brother in this way because then they can understand the character easier.
Sound
(M.C.D.O.V.E.D)
When the main character is describing his brother there is minimalist music playing in the background. This shows that audience that he thinks his disabled brother is boring and that he thinks that his brothers life is a waste of time. The Dialogue talks badly about his brother and says that he is incapable of function without someone. Again this is a very wrong stereotype because most of disabled people are able to function by themselves on a day to day basis. In the dialogue his brother has really simple words to say. This tell the audience that his vocabulary is very simple and it gives you the impression that he is dumb due to his disability. Again this is a stereotype most disabled people are clever and function normally and don't need help from other people.
Camera
(F.A.M.S)
There are a lot of close ups on the disabled brothers face. Instead of having normal body shots they are zooming in right on his disability. This is to show you and exaggerate that he has a disability because most of the storyline as about the brothers disability, so the camera is trying to make sure you have seen his disability and seen how bad it is. This makes you start to feel bad for the disabled brother. The main characters also tower over the disabled brother. This makes the disabled brother look powerless and not as manly as the others. These shots are saying that because he is disabled he is not as manly as the other boys when in actual fact most disabled people are fine and their disability aren't that disabling.
Editing
His brother is on screen a lot which shows that he needs lot of attention all of the time. This again is a stereotype. Just because someone is disabled doesn't mean they need constant attention. Majority disabled people can look after them selves. But the minority do have to have cares. But this is the image we see in our head when we think of someone disabled. By slowing down the pace on the bus it shows that his mind thinks slowly because he is disabled and by slowing down the pace it makes us feel pity for the disabled brother.

Task 4
Ill Manors (Independent film)
The genre of the film is British Crime Drama. The film was written and directed by Ben Drew who is also known as Plan B.The film focuses on 8 core characters and their circles or violence as they struggle to survive on the streets. Each story weaves into one another, painting an ultrarealistic gritty world that is on the brink of self destruction. Each story is represented by a different rap song. This is a good way to show diversity between characters.
Production
The main production company for the film was BBC Films. The BBC was good production company for ill manors because they produce lots of other independents films such as Street Dance three, Fish tank and Match Point. The average budget for a BBC film is £4 million and BBC vary from genre to genre. The script of the film is mostly based off true stories that drew had heard whilst growing up e.g. a girl turned to prostitution to pay off her drug debt. Drew had been trying to develop the film for three years because he was struggling to secure funding for his film. The finances were then helped out by Film London Microwave. They make movies off micro-budgets and they helped with ill manors secure their last bit of finance they needed for the film. The production budget was £100,000 and they used east London to film. Plan B made a CD specifically for the film and he uses the songs to tell the narratives.
Promotion
The film was advertised on the empire magazine website following the film premiere. There was also 8 different posters that ill manors had which was on bill boards, busses and on websites featuring as adverts. ill Manors was using a slogan to promote their film which was......
"We are all products of our environment...Some environments are just harder to survive in".
